Paper for Water ("We," "us," or "our") a non-profit organization bringing clean water and the Word to the Thirsty, one piece of paper at a time, commits to serve and inform all site visitors ("You," "user," "site user," "your"). We have developed this exclusive privacy policy to inform our users of their decisions, including how information and personal data are collected from you. This Privacy Policy exists to be transparent and as direct as possible, because it is important to us how the information provided to us by you is used and shared.

This Privacy Policy accounts to all information received by Paper for Water, both online and offline, on any Platform ("Platform," includes the Paper for Water website, mobile applications, social media, and Paper for Water associated linked sites) in addition to electronic, written, and/or verbal communications executed under our name.

Commitment to our Donors ("Donor Privacy Policy")

Paper for Water promises its donors that we will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to any other organization. We assume that as a donor and as a general user of our platform that your identity and information will be kept confidential. The usage of information will be limited to the internal purposes of Paper for Water.

Acceptance of Terms

By visiting Paper for Water and/or using our Services and Platform, you are agreeing to the terms ("Terms") of this Privacy Policy and our accompanying Terms of Use. If you do not agree to our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, or Donor Privacy Policy (collectively, this "Agreement"), please do not use the Paper for Water website.

Information Collected

Paper for Water collects information when you visit our website, create an account, edit your account information, fill out volunteer forms, event inquiry, contact us, or use any other donation and origami shopping features on the platform. Some of this information is technical information that our servers automatically synchronize to collect and log. Paper for Water and its platform collects the following types of information, both directly and indirectly (through the collection by our third-party service providers defined under "Partners") from its users that we specifically collect.

By continuing to use our Platform, you are authorizing us to use, store, and process any personal information that identifies you, including but not limited to: your name and address, to the necessary extent to provide the services and relationships available through our website, our Partners, successors, associates, subcontractors, or other third parties.

1 - Personal Information

For the purposes of this Agreement, Personal Information means that any information that is related and/or identifies you on behalf of Paper for Water, or any of our Partners, in order to identify you as a legal person. Personal Information does not include the encoded, aggregated, anonymized, or publicly available information.

Examples of situations where Paper for Water may collect Personal Information include, but are not limited to:

  1. The registration process for Registered Users;
  2. Usage of areas on the Paper for Water website, where you may be asked to provide basic information such as your name, mailing address, email address, username and password;
  3. Donations made directly to Paper for Water or under a designated Origami order made through sources including Stripe, from which we collect Personal Information such as your name, billing address, and email address, if you have not previously provided these details. We collect information about your donation and donation amount;
  4. Voluntary forms providing us information on who you are in order to become a Paper for Water Volunteer;
  5. Event Inquiries;
  6. Contacting donors in regards to a donation, quality of experience, or any potential errors that may have occurred during the donation process;
  7. Voluntary requests about information, signing up to receiving information or contacting us through email;
  8. Email subscriptions where you will be able to sign up for our subscription list by submitting your name, mailing address, and/or email address.

2 - Non-Personal/Other Information

In addition to the Personal Information, we and our Partners may collect information that does not necessarily identify to you ("Other Information"). This includes, but not limited to:

a. Your Activity: Information that we or our Partners may collect when you visit and access the pages within our Platforms, including but not limited to:

  • IP Address;
  • Internet service provider;
  • Browser type;
  • Browser language;
  • Referring and exit pages;
  • URLs;
  • Date and time;
  • Amount of time spent on particular pages;
  • Number of links you clicked while on the Platform;
  • Operating system;
  • General geographic location;
  • Technical information about your mobile device

b. From Cookies, JavaScript Tags: Information that we or any given partners automatically collect using technical methods, including but not limited to:

  • Cookies - small packets of data that a website automatically stores in your computer's hard drive so that your computer remembers and records information about your website visits;
  • JavaScript tags - Usage to trigger sequence of events within the Platform;
  • Web Beacons;
  • Pixel gifs;
  • Flash Cookies;
  • Other locally stored objects.

c. Do Not Track: Paper for Water does not assume any responsibility in regards to "Do Not Track" web browsers signals. Please consult external website policies regarding their responses to DNT signals.

Partners

We do not sell, trade or otherwise transfer your information unless we notify you in advance of such action. This does not include hosting of partner sites and other parties that assist us in operating the platform, conducting our business or serving our users, provided that such parties agree to keep this information in strict confidence. We may also disclose information that is permitted by law, comply with our site policies, and protect the rights, property, and safety of others.

However, non-personal information may be provided to third parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Information Collected by or Through Third-Party Advertising Companies

Paper for Water may share information about your activity on the Platform with contracted third parties for the purpose of analyzing, managing, optimizing and reporting advertising you see on the Platform or any other social media channel linked to Paper for Water.

Search Engines and Other Sites

Search engines and other sites not directly partnered with Paper for Water, such as google.com, bing.com, or any other similar platforms, may crawl the Site and make available to the public any content available to the public and posting from the website. The Site also may contain links to other websites. Paper for Water does not hold any responsibility to the privacy practices of such other websites. Paper for Water highly recommends its visitors and users to know of such search engines and to read their designated privacy policies.

How We Use and Share the Information

We use Personal Information and Other Information with the means to deliver services, process designated donations, solicit user feedback, inform you about new Origami Ornaments, personalized communications and fundraising, raise awareness about the world water crisis, and optimize our relation with the user.

We may also use and/or share your Personal Information as laid out below, but not limited to:

  • We may employ other companies and individuals to perform certain tasks on Paper for Water's behalf. These other companies will have access to Personal Information and Other Information only as necessary to perform their tasks and to the extent permitted by law.
  • With the objective of optimizing user experience, we may analyze Other Information that does not identify individuals as their real legal person, but helps us understand user behavior. This data may be shared with our agents, affiliates, and partners.
  • To the extent permitted by law, Personal Information and Other Information may be displayed if: (i) required by law, court order, or other government or law enforcement authority or regulatory agency; or (ii) when we believe that disclosing your information is necessary to protect rights, property, or the safety of Paper for Water or the community.

Accessing and Modifying Information and Communication Preferences

Once requested, Paper for Water will provide reasonable access to site users to their Personal Information that we, our agents, or partners hold about them. Users and visitors who provide any Personal Information to us may make changes and/or review make changes to the account by contacting Paper for Water. In addition, individuals have the right to opt out of our email list anytime by simply emailing us, requesting to unsubscribe from the list.

How We Protect the Information

We take all possible steps in providing a secure environment and to protect Personal Information and Other Information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, changes, or destruction. Please take into consideration and understanding that no security system is impenetrable. Paper for Water does not guarantee the security of our databases, nor we can guarantee that the assigned information provided by you will not be intercepted when provided over the Internet.

Important Notices for Foreign Users (Non-U.S. Residents)

Our Platform and our servers are operated in the United States, therefore, if the Platform user is located outside of the United States, any Personal Information provided to Paper for Water will be automatically transferred to the United States. By using this Platform, contacting us, or providing us any information, you consent to Paper for Water the permission to transfer and use the information and data provided, as long as it maintains accordance to our Privacy Policy.

Paper for Water's website or any external communication channels (Platform, online, offline, verbal, written, or electronic) may contain third-party websites. Paper for Water does not contain control over privacy practices or the content of those websites, including our Partners, and therefore does not hold any responsibility over the content or privacy policies of designated third-party websites. Please, we advise you check the applicable third-party policy and terms of use when visiting their websites.

Children

We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not give us any Personal Information. We encourage the designated parents and legal guardians to fully monitor their children's Internet usage and help enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing their children to never provide such information through the Platform without complete consent. If you suspect a child under 13 has provided us Personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately, so we can delete the information from our database.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of the date stated on top of this document. We may make changes to the Privacy Policy periodically and we want you to be aware that any changes will be effective at the time we collect the information. We highly recommend that you refer back to this Privacy Policy on a regular basis.
